Become a Fife Dementia Friend

Last week was dementia awareness week and Alzheimer Scotland are currently working in Fife to roll out Dementia Friendly Communities. To date they have 150 business/organisations who have received dementia friendly status and 4500 registered dementia friends. By 2020 they aim to have 10,000 dementia friends. You can become a dementia friend by logging on to www.dementiafriendsscotland.org. It takes about 15 mins & involves watching 2 short DVD's.

If you log your details you will get an electronic certificate to download and a badge sent through the post. Please help them to increase their number of dementia friends in Fife.

Alzheimer Scotland meet weekly every Monday from 1.00 - 3.00pm at Crossgates Community Centre, 2 Invekeithing Road, Cowdenbeath, KY4 8AL.

This social group welcomes people living with dementia and their carers to join in with activities to suit you from games, seated exercise and different crafts, its your group you decide.

A social information group for people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends to come and find out information.

They provide activities for people living with dementia in a group setting to allow carers to have time to speak to other carers privately finding out information that might help them with day to day life. This information group meets the last Friday of each month from 1.30 - 3.00pm at the Duloch Leisure Centre, Nightingale Place, Dunfermline, KY11 8LW.

The purpose of the cafe is to reduce social isolation and loneliness in elderly. It runs weekly, every Thursday from 12.15pm-2.15pm In Cowdenbeath Maxwell Centre, 70 Stenhouse St, KY4 9DD. The only criteria for a referral is age (over 65, but will accept 60's if they suffer from isolation) and from local area (West Fife). They accept any disability; physical or mental (including early stages of dementia).

Call for views on Scottish Government's draft budget - Equalities and Human Rights Committee

On 21 June, the Equalities and Human Rights Committee launched its call for views ahead of scrutiny of the Scottish Government’s draft budget 2020/21.

This focuses on public sector funding to third sector organisations that deliver national equalities and human rights priorities, and the accountability of public bodies partnering with the third sector in achieving better outcomes for those groups who have equality needs or require support to access their rights.

The deadline for views is Friday 23 August and you can read details on our website.

The Tesco Bags of Help grant scheme accepts applications from community groups, schools, local authorities and not-for-profit organisations. Session ‘A’ of the 39th Fife Festival of Music 2019 gets underway on Tuesday 29 January in Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline and will continue until 09 February with sessions taking place in Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Cupar. Entry levels are on a par with previous years and there is a wide range of music-making on offer for both performers and audience.
