Health state life expectancy estimates for MSOAs, England and Wales: 2019 to 2023
On 30 July, the ONS published estimates of health expectancy for small area populations based on self-assessed health and self-assessed activity limitation.
The release includes estimates of life expectancy, healthy life expectancy (including proportion of life in good health) and disability-free life expectancy, by sex, for Middle layer Super Output areas (MSOAs).
The health state information used in the estimates is based on data from Census 2021. This is different to the ONS annual release, which is mainly based on Annual Population Survey data.
Estimates of the very old, including centenarians, England and Wales: 2002 to 2025
On 29 July, the ONS released annual mid-year population estimates for people aged 90 years and over by sex and single year of age to 105 years and over, in England and Wales.
There were an estimated 15,172 centenarians (aged 100 years or over) in 2025, more than a fifth more than in 2015.
Impact of drug and alcohol treatment on reoffending
On 9 July, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) released analysis of offending and reoffending by people in community drug and alcohol treatment in England.
Key findings of the analysis include:
- analysis of links between Police National Computer records and National Drug Treatment Monitoring System records for people in community-based drug and alcohol treatment
- data on offending in the year before individuals started treatment, broken down by substance type
- data on re-offending in the year after treatment started, including comparisons by treatment status and substance type
Adult mental health and wellbeing profile: July 2026 update
On 7 July, OHID updated the Adult mental health and wellbeing profile. This health data toolkit improves the availability and accessibility of information and intelligence around adult mental health and wellbeing.
This recent update includes new data for the financial year ending 2024 for England, NHS and statistical regions, integrated care boards, and upper tier local authorities on:
- new referrals to secondary mental health services
- attended contacts with community and outpatient mental health services
- inpatient stays in secondary mental health services

Data and intelligence for adult social care
The Local Government Association and Association of Directors of Adult Social Services are Partners in Care and Health (PCH). They work with councils to help improve the way they deliver adult social care and help Government understand the challenges faced by the sector.
As part of PCH’s sector-led improvement support offer for adult social care, they provide a number of data tools and thematic Local Government (LG) Inform reports.
These tools and reports help councils in identifying the information that they would find most useful for adult social care. Information is available to view by council area.
