Manage my Service: important update
Last week, we issued a provider update with key updates about Manage my Service, which will be our new digital platform for care services and providers. As a reminder:
- Manage my Service is now planned for launch later this year.
To ensure the platform is stable, secure and ready to use from day one, we have taken the decision to delay the launch to allow time for final testing and checks. Until the new launch date, please continue to use the Digital portal and electronic forms (eForms) as normal, using your existing login details.
- Q&A videos are now available.
We have launched a series of Q&A videos to answer key questions about Manage my Service, such as "What is changing?" and "What are the benefits?". You can watch the full series on our website.
- Join our Manage my Service webinar.
We are hosting an online session for Adults care services on Monday, 20 July from 10:00-11:00. This will explain what is changing, how to prepare and what training and support will be available. There will also be a live Q&A section.
The webinar will be recorded and shared for anyone who cannot attend.
Find more information about Manage my Service on our website.
What do we mean by unrestricted visiting?
Meaningful relationships are central to people’s wellbeing, quality of life and human rights. In line with the Health and Social Care Standards and Anne’s Law, there should generally be no restrictions on routine visiting in care homes.
Unrestricted visiting means that people can spend time with those who are important to them in ways that fit with their lives and routines. This can include support with day-to-day care, sharing activities and simply spending time together.
Changes to Transmission Based Precautions (TBPs) guidance
We want to inform you of planned updates to the Transmission Based Precautions (TBPs) guidance within the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM), which will come into effect on 3 August 2026.
TBPs remains an essential component of infection prevention and control, helping to protect social care workers, residents/people supported, visitors and the wider healthcare environment from the transmission of infection.
The updated guidance introduces changes to both the terminology used to describe transmission routes and the approach to selecting masks (either Fluid Resistant Surgical Masks or Respiratory Protective Equipment) when caring for individuals with suspected or confirmed respiratory infection.

We are continuing to update and improve our refreshed website careinspectorate.scot

Still Reading project at Queen's University Belfast
Still Reading is a collaborative project that explores how shared reading can support people living with dementia.
The project is based on the idea that reading literature together can stimulate conversation, encourage social connection and create meaningful shared experiences. Participants have highlighted the value of the groups in supporting confidence, enjoyment, wellbeing and engagement with others.
As part of the project, the group has developed a free resource pack containing practical guidance, lessons learned and recommendations for organisations interested in developing shared reading opportunities for people living with dementia.
Further information about the project is available here.
