Last week, we issued a provider update signposting our onboarding resources for Manage my Service, our new digital platform for care services and providers.
Training and support
- written FAQs: answers to the most common questions about the new platform
- video explainers: short, Q&A-style videos covering key topics such as "What is Manage my Service?" and "What are the benefits?"
- how-to guides: short videos and step-by-step guides on logging in, updating staff details, submitting notifications, reviewing complaints, and more
We will continue to add new resources to the web page before and after launch.
We recently hosted an online webinar on Manage my Service for Children and young people services. The session introduced key features, showed what the platform will look like, and answered your questions.
Review of our digital social care self-evaluation toolkit
Last year, we shared our digital social care self-evaluation toolkit.
Many services told us they were interested in using it to support reflection and improvement. As technology and AI become more visible in care, understanding how tools like this support improvement is increasingly important.
We would like to understand what has happened since the toolkit was shared, including:
- whether you have used it
- how helpful it has been
- what would make it easier to use.
We have created a short survey that should take one minute to complete. Your feedback will help us understand what is working well and where we can improve the support we offer.
Webinar: See me, not just Prader-Willi Syndrome
The Health and Social Care Improvement Team is hosting a webinar with Prader-Willi Syndrome Association UK. The webinar will provide essential information for professionals working with people with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) across the lifespan, from children’s services to adult services.
The webinar will include:
- key medical risk factors
- communication
- food security and dietary management
- Scottish legislation and restrictions.
The intended learning outcomes are:
- recall key risk factors for people living with PWS
- recognise the strengths and challenges of people living with PWS.
The webinar will be relevant to anyone who may work with or act on behalf of a person with PWS. The information shared will promote better understanding of this complex condition and how to advocate for the appropriate supports.

National Care Service Charter of Rights
The National Care Service Charter of Rights is now live.
The new resource about people’s care-specific rights is available on the Scottish Government website.
The National Care Service Charter of Rights (the Charter) explains people’s existing rights and describes what people should expect from social care, social work and community health support. It also provides information on what people should do if they think their rights are not being met.
The Charter contains a breadth of detail, including a section on ‘children’s rights’ which provides clear, easy to understand information on the rights of children and young people. It signposts to other useful resources and information specifically designed for children so that they can better understand their rights.
The Charter is for:
- anyone accessing or waiting to access care (including children)
- unpaid carers (including young carers)
- welfare guardians and people who hold power of attorney
- anyone else with an interest in the wellbeing of someone receiving support.
The Charter aims to be a useful resource for people who provide care and support and wish to help people to understand and access their rights.
For example, the Charter can be used:
- to give people information about their rights
- to support people to give feedback about their care
- to inform conversations, for example during reviews or at times of transition
- to build workforce awareness around rights.
The Charter is available in full on the Scottish Government website, alongside alternative versions and formats.

Scottish Government are collecting examples of the Charter being used in practice. They would like to hear from people who are using the Charter, in both a professional and personal context, so that they can understand if the Charter is useful and how it is being used.

Changes to Transmission Based Precautions (TBPs) guidance
We want to inform you of planned updates to the Transmission Based Precautions (TBPs) guidance within the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM), which will come into effect on 3 August 2026.
TBPs remain an essential component of infection prevention and control, helping to protect social care workers, residents/people supported, visitors and the wider healthcare environment from the transmission of infection.
The updated guidance introduces changes to both the terminology used to describe transmission routes and the approach to selecting masks (either Fluid Resistant Surgical Masks or Respiratory Protective Equipment) when caring for individuals with suspected or confirmed respiratory infection.

Use of AI in social services
The SSSC is developing guidance and training materials to support people working in social work, social care and children and young people services in the safe use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Common AI tools include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Alexa, Claude and CoPilot and there are others created specifically for the sector, such as Magic Notes.
To do this they need to understand how the sector is using AI and what support they can provide. If you’d like to get involved and share how you are using AI in your service, please complete this short survey.
ARHAI Scotland Guidance staff survey reminder
Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland, the organisation that produces the infection prevention and control (IPC) guidance for Scotland, is seeking your input into how to develop this guidance, how to communicate changes and what more ARHAI could do to support this.
To help ARHAI understand how the guidance for the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual is used in your practice, please take 10 to 15 minutes to complete this survey and share it with your wider teams. The survey, which closes on 3 August 2026 is available here.
Product Recall: Habico Ltd 350g Jars of Coloured Sand (2606-0268)
There has been a Product Recall for Habico Ltd 350g Jars of Coloured Sand presenting a risk to health.
The products present a risk to health as the sand in the jars may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.
The products do not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Read more here.
Survey Now Open: Social Care Nursing Workforce
Scottish Care has launched their 2026 Annual Nursing Survey to better understand the current landscape of social care nursing. This is an important opportunity to build a clear, up-to-date picture of the workforce and ensure the realities of the sector are reflected in future planning, policy and support.
They are asking all social care services that employ registered nurses to take part, regardless of role or setting.
We now publish our provider updates every three weeks and focus our content on Care Inspectorate news and activity. We encourage services to follow us on social media, regularly check our website and the websites of other relevant organisations, to keep up to date with the latest news and guidance.
