Carers Rights Day
The 21st of November was Carers Rights Day. Here are some key policies and rights you should know about:
-
Adult Carer Support Plan (ACSP) or Young Carer Statement (YCS): Carers have the right to receive a plan outlining their personal outcomes, identified needs, and the support available. This includes information about emergency plans.
-
Breaks from Caring: Local authorities must consider providing carers with breaks from their responsibilities, ideally on a planned basis.
-
Hospital Discharge Involvement: Health boards must inform carers and seek their views before a cared-for person is discharged from hospital, ensuring their opinions are considered in the process.

Befriending Week
During Befriending Week, our volunteers visited local care homes to support the community. The volunteers enjoyed playing games and chatting with the residents. They also donated handmade knitted and crocheted blankets. The visit highlighted the positive impact of connection and the generosity of local volunteers. Well done all!

Dementia Workshops
Our Dementia Workshops are back for 2025!
These workshops are funded to support family members and friends caring for someone with any form of dementia. They provide valuable insights into how the condition affects individuals' understanding and responses to the world around them, equipping carers with tools and strategies to navigate life alongside dementia.

Befriending for Carers
Our Befriending Service is designed to support carers who may feel socially isolated, helping them reconnect with their local community. Our befrienders can meet with carers for a couple of hours each week to enjoy a friendly chat, go for a coffee, or visit a local community resource. Alternatively, you can have a chat over the phone with your befriender.
If you’re a carer and feel that having someone to accompany you for a while could help you get out and about, the befriending service might be just what you need. Speak with your Fife Carers Centre carer support worker to explore this option. If you both agree that the service would be beneficial, the befriending project coordinator will arrange a conversation with you to understand your needs and preferences in a befriender.
With your befriender, you’ll work towards creating “a life of your own” that you can enjoy alongside your caring responsibilities.
