Public Health Scotland (PHS) have contacted us regarding clade I mpox. Following an increase in cases in west and central Africa, one travel related case has been identified in England. PHS would like to reassure the children and young people care sector that the risk in Scotland remains very low.
PHS and the wider NHS have prepared for any cases and have plans in place for how they would be managed. PHS will remain in contact and update the Care Inspectorate and the sector. Should it be necessary mpox guidance will be made available, however at this stage there are no specific actions for the care sector.
PHS guidance on Health protection in children and young people settings, including education provides general advice.
Care homes and providers should refer to the CHIPCM/NIPCM as per usual good practice.
