IDDSI Awareness Webinar
We are hosting a webinar to raise awareness of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) in adult care services. The webinar aims to provide information about where to access learning and support about IDDSI to enable safer eating, drinking and swallowing for people living with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) in adult care services.
The webinar will include:
- what IDDSI is and why it matters
- national learning resources and training opportunities
- practical tools and guidance for care homes
- IDDSI for religious and cultural diets
- examples of good practice and expert insights.
The webinar will include contributions from:
- the Care Inspectorate’s Health and Social Care Improvement Team
- speech and language therapists and dietitians working for Public Services Delivery Scotland and NHS health boards
- chefs from Vegetarian for Life and Oak House Kitchen.
Everyone is welcome to attend but the webinar will be particularly relevant for care home staff and managers, clinical leads, nurses, allied health professionals, catering teams and carers.
Date: Tuesday 24 November 2026
The webinar will be recorded and made available afterwards. We hope that you can join us to promote safer eating, better nutrition and improved quality of life.
Notifications about visiting restrictions – adult/older people’s care homes
Just a quick reminder that in any situation where visiting restrictions are put in place, care homes should complete the relevant notification. Where the restriction is due to an infectious outbreak, this should be recorded using the relevant section of the existing outbreak eForm. For restrictions arising in any other circumstances, please complete the eForm entitled “Non-outbreak related visiting restrictions (care homes)”.
You can find more information here.
Are you prepared for winter?
Winter brings an increased risk of respiratory infections and outbreaks in care settings. Taking a few simple steps now can help keep people experiencing care, visitors and staff safe this winter.
Changes to Transmission-Based Precautions (TBPs) Guidance
As we enter the colder months, we want to remind care services about changes to guidance on Transmission-Based Precautions (TBPs) as part of the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM).
These changes apply to all health and social care settings and are designed to ensure guidance reflects the latest evidence on how infections spread.
The guidance emphasises that TBPs involve much more than personal protective equipment (PPE). Services should continue to focus on all aspects of infection prevention and control, including:
- respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette
- appropriate separation or isolation where required
- safe waste and laundry management
- correct selection and use of PPE and respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
The type of face mask or respiratory protection used will now be determined by the respiratory category (R1, R2 or R3) of the infectious agent, as detailed in the NIPCM.
Manage my service
We are working towards the launch of Manage my Service. This single online portal will replace eForms and the Care Inspectorate's Digital portal, allowing care services and providers to manage all interactions with us in one place.
We will share further details and confirm the launch window closer to the time. In the meantime, please continue to use our Electronic Forms (eForms) and Care Inspectorate Digital Portal systems as usual.
- FAQs, including guidance on how to submit your user details ahead of launch, if you have not already done so.
These resources contain the most up-to-date information and will continue to be updated regularly before and after the launch of Manage my Service.
If you have a question about Manage my Service and cannot find the answer on our FAQs webpage, please contact our Contact Centre:

Share your experience of Anne’s Law implementation
The Care Inspectorate is gathering feedback on the early implementation of Anne's Law, in order to help us understand how the legislation is working in practice.
We are keen to hear from care home providers, managers, staff, residents, family members and friends about their experiences so far. Feedback will help us identify what is working well, any challenges or barriers to implementation, examples of positive practice, and areas where further guidance, information or support may be helpful.
The survey should only take a few minutes to complete. You do not need to answer every question, and you should not include names of individuals or other identifying information.
You can complete the survey here.
We would be grateful if you could also share this with others who may wish to contribute. The form will remain open until 6 November. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and help inform our understanding of Anne's Law implementation.
The Meaningful Connection, Visiting and Anne’s Law Project has also published a set of Frequently Asked Questions, which can be accessed on our webpage. If there are any additional questions you would like to see included, please let us know, via the project’s email address: This email address is being protected from spambots.
