Last month we published findings from our inquiry into the treatment of lower-paid ethnic minorities working in health and social care. We found a workforce that is treated unequally and who fear reporting concerns about working conditions. This includes reporting their experiences of bullying, racism and harassment at work.
We also found a lack of robust data, linked to a lack of responsibility and accountability by organisations outsourcing services. This includes those public sector employers who have a legal obligation to collect workforce data, as well as private and third-sector social care providers who would benefit from a better understanding of their workforce. We believe that this missing data could be masking the scale of discrimination against lower-paid ethnic minority workers in health and social care settings.
